The Abu Dhabi International Airport in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Tuesday celebrated three decades of providing travellers with world class services.
Earlier based in Al Bateen since 1969, the Abu Dhabi International Airport started operations at its current location, 38 km outside Abu Dhabi, in 1982.
The airport now caters to 53 international airlines connecting Abu Dhabi with 85 destinations in 49 countries.
Passenger numbers have doubled during the past six years from 5.3 million in 2006 to over 12 million in 2011. In July 2010, the airport surpassed the one million mark for the first time in a specific month.
Khalifa Al Mazrouei, chairman of the Abu Dhabi Airports Company (ADAC), said: “The ADAC is proud to celebrate this special occasion and highlight the airport’s achievements over the past 30 years. The emirate of Abu Dhabi has experienced remarkable development in this period of time, with the airport being a vital part of the capital’s growth.” Source: IANS
