Budapest Airport will move all airline operations from Terminal 1 to Terminal 2 during the night of 29-30 May 2012.
As announced earlier, Budapest Airport will close Terminal 1 for passenger operations on a temporary basis. The loss of traffic in the wake of the collapse of the Hungarian national carrier Malév and additional taxburdens leave Budapest Airport no other choice but to reduce operational costs by combining operational areas, and thus achieving a better utilization of the modern infrastructure of Terminal 2.
Negotiations are underway with Hungarian state railway company (MÁV) and the Budapest Transport Center (BKK) to offer seamless transport connections between the railway station at Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. During the first two weeks, the ground transport partners of Budapest Airport, Főtaxi and Airport Shuttle Minibus, will also offer special services between the two terminals. Passengers are kindly requested to seek further information to be published on Budapest Airport’s website in the upcoming weeks.
Starting from 30 May 2012, Terminal 1 and the surrounding public car parks will be closed to the public. The offices of Budapest Airport will remain in Terminal 1, and will be accessible via Gate B only. General aviation and air cargo remain operational in the area near Terminal 1, as before.
Budapest Airport would like to thank all the airline operators of Terminal 1 for their cooperation and understanding during this difficult period for the entire Hungarian aviation market, and looks forward to working with them to optimize their operations at the more modern Terminal 2, with its better offer for passengers.
